Eureka Park provides formal open space for the Swadlincote area. Again, working with a Friends of Group, major improvement works have either taken place or are planned for the site. Eureka Park also has links with Midway Fishponds which is a very popular venue for local anglers.
In March 2007 a stage one bid to the 'Parks for People' fund of the Big Lottery was submitted for Eureka Park.
The bid was put together by a team comprising of Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire, the Friends of Eureka Park and South Derbyshire District Council. Bids at stage one are up to a maximum value of £50,000 and are intended to fund further feasibility and consultation work.
As part of the stage one process there was a need to identify potential items for inclusion in stage two of the process. These were valued at £900,000 and include significant landscaping improvements, a new pavilion and outdoor performance space. The outcome of the bid was expected in June 2007.

Maurice Lea Memorial Park York Road, Church Gresley, Swadlincote, Derbyshire DE11 9QG.
Opening Times: Dawn till Dusk
Maurice Lea Memorial Park has benefitted from £645,000 of Heritage Lottery Funding towards a £1 million restoration project. The park was presented to the district by a local entrepreneur, Herbert Lea, in remembrance of his son Maurice Lea who was killed in France during the First World War.
Friends of Maurice Lea Memorial Park Group
During Autumn of 2004, a public meeting was held at Church Gresley Memorial Club to seek community involvement in the park by forming a 'Friends of Group'. The meeting was well attended and resulted in the formation of the 'Friends of Maurice Lea Memorial Park Group'. The Group subsequently met on a number of occasions and as a result they received a funding award of £1,000 which was generously donated by the Derbyshire County Council Community Chest award. The award was ear-marked for work with local primary schools to deliver a community project within the park.
Community involvement is an essential part of our attempts to improve the quality of our urban parks. If you are interested in finding out more about the Friends of Group for this park or other parks within the district, please contact us on the details below.
